This exquisite soapstone tabletop decorative carries intricate detailing and fine hand carvings done by the talented artisans. This region in Rajasthan is renowned for its marble and soapstone handicrafts. The rocky terrains form a natural hotspot for various types of stone and marble. Soapstone is a soft mineral containing mostly talc and is very soapy to touch, hence the term. Prior to the carving process, the raw soapstone is sculpted and shaped using a hammer and a chisel to bring out the basic form of the desired product on which the patterns would be carved. The craftsman then marks the outline of the design using a compass. Once the outline is marked, he then draws various designs using a pointed chisel and carves through these pre-drawn patterns using various grades of flat chisels and a hammer. After which, it is sent for further polishing and beautification. Carving on stone allows superior craftsmanship to shine through
